Lessons · from any long video

Watch it. Try it. Break it. Get it.

Beyond turns a long YouTube tutorial or lecture into a course. Coding, AI tools, maths, physics, engineering: each chapter becomes a lesson. You get a practice terminal to type in and break, a playground that runs real Python and JavaScript, and a scratchpad to draw and write on. The quiz jumps back to the exact moment in the video.

Lesson 1 of every video is free The video plays in YouTube's player No account to look around

Illustration: a lesson made from a lecture on orbits.

Inside every lesson

Everything a good course has, taken from the video.

You don't just get notes. You get things to do: run it, break it, draw it, answer it. Then the video shows you the moment it explains.

Practice terminal

Type the commands. Break things. See why.

Every command from the video, ready to try in a safe terminal. Mistype one, and the lesson shows the error a real terminal prints and explains it in plain words.

$ git comit -m "first save" git: 'comit' is not a git command. See 'git --help'. Why: the command is "commit", with two m's. Git suggests the closest one. $ git commit -m "first save" [main 3f2a1c9] first save

Playground

Real code, running

Python and JavaScript run in your browser. Change a number and run it again.

for n in range(1, 6): print(n, n * n) # try n ** 3

Scratchpad

Draw it, write it

Each lesson gives you something to sketch or explain in your own words. That's how it sticks.

Formulas & worked examples

The maths, explained

Each formula is written properly, with what every symbol means. Then a worked example, step by step.

v=GMr

Code from the screen

Exactly as shown

Code and commands are copied character for character from the frames, with the moment they appear.

# ▶ 14:05 on screen app = FastAPI()

Practice, checked

Problems with real solutions

Calculations, code, explain-it-back and do-it tasks. Each has a hint and a full solution that was checked a second time.

A car's speed doubles. How much more braking distance?

Braking distance grows with speed squared, so 2² = 4 times as far.

Quiz & review

Every answer leads back to its moment

Got one wrong? Jump to the second the video explains it. Short reviews come back after a day, three days and a week.

How it works

From a link to a lesson you can play with.

  1. 1

    Paste a link

Any long YouTube video that teaches something. If it has no lessons yet, the free Beyond extension for Chrome makes them.

    youtube.com/watch?v=…
  2. 2

    Beyond reads it

It reads the words and the screen, in about two minutes, and splits the video into lessons the way the video teaches.

    3–14 lessons
  3. 3

    Watch & tinker

Watch a chapter, then try it yourself: type in the practice terminal, change the code in the playground, sketch it on the scratchpad.

  4. 4

    Check & remember

Practice problems with solutions, a quiz that jumps to the moment that answers it, a final project, and reviews days later.

Questions

Good to know

Which videos work best?

Long videos that teach: programming and AI-tool tutorials, maths and physics lectures, engineering walkthroughs, any course-like video from about 20 minutes to several hours. Beyond follows how the video itself teaches, chapter by chapter.

What is the practice terminal?

A safe terminal inside the lesson. You type the commands the video uses and see what a real terminal would print. Make a typo or break something on purpose, and it tells you why it went wrong. Nothing runs on your computer.

Does the code really run?

Yes. The playground runs Python and JavaScript in your browser, so you can change the numbers, run it again and see what happens. Code that needs your own computer comes with the commands to run it.

What is free, and what does Beyond Pass add?

The first lesson of every video is free, and any video can be made into a normal Beyond page for free. Beyond Pass opens every lesson, the final project and the final check, for one payment: $14.99 for 90 days or $29 for a year. It is not a subscription.

How are lessons made?

Paste a YouTube link here. If its lessons exist, they open. If not, the free Beyond extension for Chrome reads the video, its words and its screen, in about two minutes. Code and commands are kept exactly as the video shows them. Practice problems are new, and each one is solved a second time to check it.

Who owns the video?

Its channel. The video always plays in YouTube's own player, and every course credits and links its channel.

Got a long video you mean to learn from?

Paste it. If it has no lessons yet, they're made in about two minutes, and lesson 1 is free.
